The Deluge

12 jul. — 7 sep. 2019

Crookwell based artist Joan Whittle is an intuitive painter and deep thinker. Applying paint directly to the surface with her bare hands, Whittle takes an extremely tactile approach to generating her imagery. Working in oils, Whittle uses a rich and unblended palette to express scenes and characters - not only from her own experience of the landscape, but also from stories, historical texts and film. Inspired by holistic themes and memories, the artist blends the colours with an instinctive energy across her canvas; an energy that is reflected in the flowing direction of colours and textures.
