The Art of Wool

A New England Regional Art Museum and Australian Wool Innovations Travelling Exhibition

8 apr. — 21 may 2016

The Art of Wool brings together over 30 well known Australian artworks from the nationally significant art collection held at New England Regional Art Museum, Armidale, alongside over 30 high couture garments from the International Woolmark Prize archive.

The exhibition moves beyond a presentation of the history of wool in Australia, to reflect qualities that are shared with, and complemented by, pre-eminent and rarely travelled artworks. The exhibition showcases six themes that reflect qualities of wool in the artworks: Production, Romance, Pattern, Texture, Drape, and Artistry.

Landscapes, portraits and abstracts from the early 1930s up to 2000 by artists including: Emily Kame Kngwarreye, Richard Larter, Sydney Long, Leonard Long, Conrad Martens, Lance Solomon and many others.
