Lynda Draper: Glimmer, a survey exhibition celebrating Thirroul-based artist Lynda Draper.
Following the premiere of the exhibition at Campbelltown Arts Centre, Goulburn Regional Art Gallery is delighted to partner to present a new iteration of this important exhibition of a renowned Australian artist.
Draper is celebrated as one of Australia’s most innovative ceramic practitioners. Across four decades of practice as an artist and educator, Draper has continued to push the technical limits and aesthetic conventions of ceramics. Resembling papier-mâché, bubble gum, pearl, wax, and paper, her works evoke the tactile and visual fragility of clay, capturing the alchemy and allure of the making process.
Draper’s practice explores the intersection of dreams and reality. Her works draw from memory, life events, and the environment, often conjuring a sense of nostalgia or unease. Her practice is shaped by an interest in material culture and how meaning is ascribed to physical objects.
Glimmer brings together key bodies of work by Draper, creating a space for contemplation and imagination. Featuring loans from major public institutions and private collections, the exhibition also debuts new commissions which incorporate glass and bronze for the first time – offering an in-depth exploration of Draper’s practice.
Lynda Draper has worked as a teacher, lecturer and mentor for over 40 years. From 2016-2023, she served as Head of Ceramics at the National Art School, Sydney. In 2025, Campbelltown City Council commissioned Draper to create her first public artwork, ‘Shimmer’. Her awards include the 2019 Sydney Myer Fund Australian Ceramic Award, the 16th Gold Coast International Ceramic Art Award, and the 54th Acquisition Award MIC, Faenza, Italy. Draper’s work is held in significant national and international collections.
Draper is represented by Sullivan+Strumpf, Sydney, Melbourne and Singapore, and Galerie Lefebvre & Fils, Paris, France.
