Act Up

an LGBTQAI+ community project

Today — 10 aug. 2024

Taking over the Gallery’s Window space, Act Up presents perspectives on the queer experience that are poetic, provocative, and sparkled with hope. Working in collaboration with Bladwell Productions, local LGBTQAI+ community members and allies examine the role of artmaking as a form of social cohesion and loving protest. Utilizing performance techniques across improvisation, costume and collaborative writing, participants combine memories of their individual queer awakenings, sacred objects and gender affirming moments. Translated through audio-visual monologues and hand-made alter-egos, this interdisciplinary installation forms a celebration of dynamic identities, sock puppets and self-discovery through play.
