VAST: A Collection of Prints & Drawings Robyn Mayo
Saturday 9 September 2017
2:00PM - 3:00PM
Join us for the opening of VAST: A Collection of Prints & Drawings by Robyn Mayo at 2pm on Saturday 9 September. Exhibition to be opened by Julian Beaumont, founder of Macquarie Bank Art collection.
VAST is Robyn Mayo’s visual record of her travels through central Australia between 1996 and 2013 when she visited Arnhem Land and the Gulf Country, the central desert areas of Rainbow Valley, Chambers Pillar, The Painted Desert and The Simpson Desert, and Lake Eyre and the Flinders Rangers. The resulting works consist both of landscapes and of intimate flora and fauna studies made at each campsite. Originally from the Southern Tablelands and now Tasmanian-based, Mayo’s renderings of plants are impressionistic rather than literal and she does not regard herself as a true botanical artist. She chooses to work plein air in order to feel the changing moods of landscapes and observe how plants, animals, insects and birds react throughout the day.
