Break out your mum's best Merino wool knit and bring the Goulburn energy for these two special shows.
Exhibited in Gallery 1 and Gallery 3, Through line brings together key works acquired by Goulburn Regional Art Gallery over the past ten years. This decade has seen purposeful and ambitious collecting that has significantly shaped the permanent collection. Spanning painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, audio-visual and installation, these acquisitions reflect a genuine breadth of artistic practice.
Across these practices run through lines, lineages and relationships. Some are forged deliberately through the Gallery's collecting vision: others are happily discovered only when artworks are brought together. Practices distinct in method, material, context and intent reveal themselves to share something deeper: a feeling, a way of seeing, an understanding of our place in the world. The natural world recurs as motif and metaphor, explored both explicitly and subtly as a vehicle for investigating memory, belonging and ecological concern.
In Gallery 2, Goulburn based artist Poppy Perry presents The Landscape Devours, The Landscape Restores. Pairing works on canvas alongside animated video, the exhibition delves into the dual nature of the Australian environment - its power to both devastate and regenerate. Perry invites audiences to consider how the landscape marks us, reshapes us, and ultimately restores us within its enduring cycles.
There's something for everyone across these diverse and exciting artistic practices, so brave the mid winter and dance it out with us.
This opening event is free of charge and open to all.
