Join us at the Gallery at 5:30pm, Friday 19 August for an evening of art and music, celebrating the opening of James Lieutenant's exhibition Turn on the light in Gallery 2 and Kirsten Jeffcoat curating The Window with live music!

End your week with live music, good vibes and vino - and new shows, of course!

James Lieutenant brings us a new series of work Turn on the light. Lieutenant's practice focuses on atmospheric qualities that can emerge through layering colour and texture. He has researched a variety of surface application techniques; from dabbing watery paint with a rag, to pushing paint through a silkscreen leaving bitmap forms lightly veiled and shimmering on the surface. The abstracted works included in Turn on the light on create a dialogue between the physical act of layering materials and emotional states including vulnerability, trauma and harmony.

The latest curator of The Window is local artist and educator, Kirsten Jeffcoat. With an extensive creative and educational practice of her own, Jeffcoat looks to the medium of textiles within the Gallery's permanent collection, as well as works that speak to connections between humans and nature.

To celebrate these thought-provoking exhibitions, we're hosting a Friday shindig. Swing by for some words on the exhibitions, light refreshments and enjoy live music by local performer, Keva Abotomey.
