We are kicking off the year with a significant solo exhibition from one of Australia's leading contemporary artists.

The Green Ray sees the artist Julian Meagher return to one of his earliest interests: representing land and sky. Drawing on memories of treasured family holidays to Crookwell in regional New South Wales, Meagher presents a new body of work imbued with personal histories, nostalgia, reflecting on the passage of time and the natural environment. The Green Ray features large scale paintings and a light installation to create an immersive and changing viewing experience.

Continuing Meagher’s sustained interest in atmospheric optical phenomena, the exhibition references a light effect sometimes visible on an unobstructed distant horizon at sunset and sunrise, the 'green ray’. It appears in tandem with a mirage, and though it exists, it is so uncommon it retains a mythical status. The Green Ray plays with romantic links between nature and feeling, and blurred lines between what is real and unreal. 

In Gallery 2, Jacqueline Bradley presents an exhibition of new work titled all of a sudden. Drawing inspiration and metaphor from the life-span of a single peach, the installation presents Bradley's sculptural prowess across bronze and glass, and examines the earthly process of replication, organic cycles and cultural rhythms.

Curating this iteration of The Window is Southern Highlands based artist Clara Adolphs. With her own exceedingly prolific practice in painting, Adolphs has exhibited her solo Remembering Words at the Gallery in 2018. We can't wait to reveal her choice of works selected from the permanent collection.
