shedding light series

A fence might be the first priority, but a shed is not far behind when we settle on a piece of land.   Firstly for shelter and gradually for more specific purposes.

Placed on an already old landscape, the corrugated iron quietly accords- seeming to be both temporary and indestructible.

Each shed built with a functional simplicity at it’s core.

A single entry, a small window to let in just enough light with only a glimpse to the outside.  Sometimes elevated- but no extraneous detail.

No energy wasted- no energy to waste.  It seems they know their place.

Some see frenzied activity at shearing time, filled and emptied of their sheep day in day out, every corner utilised, pressed against.

And then quiet- another year gone.

Some just sit there.

Perhaps they themselves bear witness to routines and rhythms that can blind us as we rush.

Until one day you look and they are all you can see.

This structure built to house tools, machinery, animals, fodder; passed by a thousand times and more, suddenly shows itself, and in doing so seems able to hold, not just what function dictates- but something of life itself.
